Happy Birthday!

Today we celebrated Sarah’s birthday. Originally, she was scheduled for a shoot up in Garner, Iowa but due to the wonderful Iowa weather it has been rescheduled. So we took a break today and enjoyed a great meal over at her mom’s house and tried to relax a bit. We dug out some old negatives from 1999/2000 since we’ve got this great new scanner. I’m amazed at how fast time flies. I remember photographing the series of Sarah on the phone below right before I went off to college in Springfield, Missouri. I also remember loving the subtle little things she did and taking photograph after photograph of it. She thought I was crazy – and I was. But I think I was just crazy for her. Happy 28th birthday Sarah. Love you lots!

and then there was me….

Just film :: Sneak Peak Maternity Session

As I’ve said before, I really like to post a set of photographs in their entirety rather than give someone a teaser. But I believe this warrants a sneak peak. The following shots are of a beautiful maternity session shot with Jordan and Dave. Absolutely wonderful couple! They contacted us and wanted to do a maternity session as they really enjoyed Kathleen and Ryan’s. We offered to come up to Ames where they reside but they decided to make the trip down to Des Moines for a change in scenery. So we headed over to a nice secluded area at one of our favorite spots and got some absolutely great shots.

These are the best of the best from the 2 rolls of film I shot. (400 Tri-X and 1600 Neopan). Unfortunately, I had some crazy underexposure going on with the 1600 speed film. My Tri-X looked beautiful though. Thanks again to Joey for allowing me to develop over at his place. The majority of these shots are from the Canon 1V-HS and 85L. Really love film. I’ve already reviewed what Sarah captured and I think we are in for an amazing set. Stay tuned for the full set!

Iowa State Bank :: Commercial Shoot

We are currently working with Push Branding and Design out of Des Moines on multiple commercial shoots. We’ve been asked to do some very simple in studio work as well as some larger scale shoots that we’ll be posting a little later. This was done for Iowa State Bank. Creative Art Director, Scott Helms of Push was with us during the shoot and wanted to recreate an advertisement that had a fifties feel to it. He brought in a model + saddle shoes + poodle skirt. We gave it a go and think the shots turned out great! These will be turned over to their design team to use for the literature. We are very excited for the future shoots we’ve got in store with Push. Great group of people!

Big thank you’s go out to Derek Tingstrom and Jill Brown for their contributions in making this shoot a success [that includes the use of your clothing steamer!]. You guys are fantastic.

Leah and Greg :: Engaged

All the way from Chicago!

Leah was originally from Iowa and they now both hail from Chicago. Their wedding will be held downtown at the Marriott later this year. These two were great in front of the camera.  Greg is a bit of a gear head and shoots Nikon – but we won’t hold that against him. Leah seems to patiently tolerate Greg’s passion for gear and capturing photos.

We decided to shoot close to the wedding location and went downtown next to the Temple. We later made a quick run over to Greenwood Park. I think they were stunning. Some of my favorite simple portraits came out of this session.

And the next few here are all film. I again shot with the Mamiya RB67 and was able to get a few keepers out of the roll and a half of 220 I shot. It’s a lot easier shooting with a Sekonic meter in hand now. Love the third shot below.

A few “in action” shots! The first is just a random shot Sarah snapped of me hauling the light stick around. The second is the “aftermath” of getting near the small creek to get the ring shot. Good times!
