Jess and Max :: Norwex and the Navy

We received a phone call several weeks ago that was an out of state inquiry. We’ve received them before but this was something very different and so very sweet. Jess called us and said she had been hunting for a photographer in Des Moines. Her boyfriend, Max, is serving in the Navy and is stationed in California. They arranged a flight for him to come to Des Moines for the weekend. They had seen the photographs of Centro and Fong’s and wanted to hit some local cuisine as well as have some portraits done! How ridiculous is that!? Needless to say, we were pretty excited to meet.

They were incredible! Max has a fantastic sense of humor. We spent several minutes reenacting Harry Caray’s weekend update on SNL. Our day started out  at around 3 and we didn’t end up parting ways until almost 9pm. It was a lot of fun. Thank you Jess for having us out. And many thanks to you Max for your service to our great country. Sarah and I will be talking about this session for awhile. We look forward to meeting up with you guys again!

Greg and Winter’s Final Grip

We photographed Greg a few weeks back and it was absolutely freezing. We had a day of almost 70 degrees prior and it dropped down into the 30’s for this shoot. The wind was unforgiving and the sun refused to show up until the end of our session. Despite all of that, I think these photographs are super rad. Thanks so much to Lisa and Ben for having us out again. And much thanks to Greg as he was excellent in front of the camera.

Izabelle

Sarah photographed this beautiful little one and I wanted to share it. Such a darling. As a father of four it feels like they stay little like this for around three seconds. Congratulations on the new addition to the family Riana and Justin!

Henry David Thoreau, Dr. Seuss and Photographs

I’ve cleared off the keyboard cobwebs and decided that tonight would be a good night to resume our regularly scheduled blog posts.

A photographer I admire had posted the following quote a few months back from Henry David Thoreau:

“If one advances confidently in the direction of one’s dreams, and endeavors to live the life which one has imagined, one will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”

That has been bouncing around in my head. It’s a marvelous quote that tells of the potential we all have if we just have the guts to try. I encourage anyone and everyone to do the same. No matter how long and the amount of failures that are encountered – success will come to those willing to make the journey.

One last quick quote that I’ve taken strength in recently:

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” Theodor Seuss Geisel

The following photographs represent a broad range of cameras. Everything from a point and shoot to a Sinar F2 4×5 large format camera. It has been a lot of fun spending time with the family.
