George Hurrell is among one of my favorite portrait photographers. Classic Americana that you must check out if you’ve never seen his work. If you google him you’ll immediately recognize that his subjects were mostly famous actors and actresses during the 40’s and 50’s. I’ve been so fascinated with the classical lighting that I thought I’d take a crack at some “hot light” portraits. The reason for the term “hot lights” is because 1) they can literally ‘cook’ the subject due to the heat generated 2) they are a constant source of light. This is the epitome of “what you see is what you get” type of studio lighting. There are a lot of drawbacks to using “hot lights” which is why it is usually very uncommon to find a studio using these. But I love a challenge and this should be a good one. These just arrived today in 2 massive crates! Shout out goes to Mitch at Cinequipt for unbelievable speediness in getting us these lights! Workhorse lights that should be up to the task!
